What is the Midwest Student Exchange

HomeApplyWhat is the Midwest Student Exchange? This page may contain affiliate links.Nov 19, 2018 If you’re pursuing a specific academic program in the Midwest, you may not have an in-state school available that you can attend. The good news is that the Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) can help. Through the MSEP, public schools agree to charge no more than 150% of the in-state tuition rate for specific academic programs, even if the student is from out of state. Private schools agree to give a 10% discount for specific academic programs. Qualifying for the Midwest Student Exchange This program is open to students from 10 Midwestern states. This is a voluntary program, and at this time Iowa and South Dakota do not participate. In order to apply as a MSEP student, you need to contact your preferred school directly. Each institution has an administrator who handles the program. Each school and program may have different admission requirements under MSEP. It’s vital to contact the school’s administrator directly to get information on conditions and deadlines. You may need to reapply under MSEP each year, as well. If multiple out-of-state schools carry your preferred program, you may want to choose the school with the easiest and most favorable MSEP rules. Can Your Child Benefit from MSEP? If you live in one of the 10 participating states, you should search the MSEP website  to see if your target school takes candidates from your state. You can get more information on what programs are included, and get the administrator’s name and contact information as well. Be sure you understand all the stipulations, including which degree programs are covered, whether your student has to reapply each year, and what criteria are used for acceptance. Of course, if your student changes majors, they may no longer get the MSEP discount. Trying to figure out which colleges can offer your student the most merit scholarships?
